What is XAT?

The full form of XAT is Xavier Aptitude Test. National-level management entrance examination carried out by XLRI(Xavier School of Management), Jamshedpur for enrollment to management programs at XLRI and 148 other involved XAT institutes throughout the nation. For over 60 years, XLRI has been conducting admission tests in India to pick the most appropriate applicants for management education. Every year roughly 90,000 candidates appear for the XAT exam. XAT exam date?

XAT 2022 – Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur will conduct XAT exam in the first week of January 2022 in an online mode for admission to MBA/ PGDM programmes. The application form of XAT 2022 will be released in the second week of September 2021 in an online mode. Eligible candidates will be able to fill XAT application form till the last week of December 2021. The admit card of XAT will be released in the third week of December 2021 in an online mode. The XAT result will be out in the third week of January 2022.

Eligibility Criteria for XAT Examination

XAT is an MBA or PGDM admission test in XLRI and other top MBA colleges, including IMT Ghaziabad, SPJIMR Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal, XIMB Bhubaneswar, and 150 other top Indian MBA colleges.

  • One has to get a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or board in any discipline.
  • The graduation duration should be at least three years.
  • If you are a final year graduation student, one can apply for the test as well.
  • Under XAT eligibility requirements, XLRI has not recommended any age restriction to register for the examination.

XAT Examination pattern

The XAT exam has four parts which include multiple-choice questions and the duration of examination is 180 minutes.

  • Verbal (VR) and Logical Reasoning(LR),
  • Decision Making (DM)
  • Data Interpretation(DI) and Quantitative Ability (QA)
  • General Knowledge (GK)

There is no time limit for each section, but access to the on-screen calculator will not be granted to the applicants.

Marking method in XAT test

Each question carries one mark. Therefore one score is credited for each correct answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.

For each question, unattended queries greater than eight will also result in 0.05 scores of negative scoring.

XAT Mock Test

XLRI will release Official XAT Mock Test for XAT 2022 in the 3rd week of December 2021. This official XAT Mock test is the best guide to prepare for the XAT exam. XLRI will release full length official XAT Mock test 2022 a few days before the XAT exam day. There are four XAT Free Mock Test  which are available on official XAT exam website without answer options.

XAT Syllabus

VARC & LR: 1st section

XAT exam 2022 for the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) and Logical Reasoning section comprises the following:

  • Total questions: 26
  • Type of questions: MCQs
  • RC passages: 4
  • RC Based questions: 14 to 16
  • VA questions: 8 to 10
  • VA topics: Vocabulary; Analogy; Para Jumbles, Para completion; Critical Reasoning; Statements-assumptions;
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to Very difficult

Decision Making: 2nd section

Decision Making section in XAT decides the fate of candidates. The XAT syllabus and pattern for Decision Making section consists of short caselets, decision making problems. The questions are mostly in sets.

  • Total questions: 21
  • Type of questions: MCQs
  • Question groups: 7 to 8 sets of decision making problems following by 2 and 3 questions each
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to difficult

Quant & DI: 3rd section

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section in XAT consists of individual questions from all parts of Quant and Data Interpretation problems followed by questions in sets of 3-4. 

  • Total questions: 28
  • Type of questions: MCQs
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to difficult
  • Frequently asked topics in Quant & DI Section:
  • Questions are frequently asked on Time & Work, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Equations, Number system, Clocks, Geometry, Algebra, Mensuration, Venn diagram, Tables, Bar diagram, graphs

GK: 4th section

There is no XAT syllabus and pattern for GK in XAT exam. The questions can be based on any topic under the Sun.

  • Total questions: 25
  • Type of questions: MCQs
  • Time Limit to Attempt: 15 minutes
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to difficult
  • Question topics: GK questions could be based on any topic including Current domestic and international affairs; Business; Economics; social issues, appointments; conventional GK; sports; Constitution of India among others.

XAT Preparation

XAT 2022 Exam date is January 2, 2022. The exam is divided in four sections out of which the score of three major sections on VALR, DM, QADI will be counted for percentile calculation and subsequent shortlisting process by XLRI. Unless you score high in all these three sections, you may not be shortlisted by XLRI for final admission round. Accordingly, you need to prepare well for XAT 2022 with equal focus on all the three sections and should devised best strategy to devote time to improve upon your weaknesses and further strengthen your strong areas.

XAT 2022 Registration: Important Details about Exam, Fee & Process

  • XAT Exam 2022 registration and XAT form 2022 is a single document and is spread over eight key steps divided into ten pages
  • You can select 2 most preferred XAT exam cities where you wish to appear in XAT 2022, from the list of 72 cities.
  • XAT 2022 Registration Fee of Rs.1750/- (If you apply till Nov 30, 2021) includes the XAT registration fee and XAT exam 2022 Fee.
  • XAT exam 2022 Registration Form completion involves two steps – first the XAT Exam Registration 2022 and second the filling up of XAT 2022 Application form
  • There is no time bound process to complete XAT exam registration and XAT application form 2022. They can be completed in one go or in different stages
  • You have to complete the XAT Registration form online only as the offline XAT registration form process has been discontinued by XLRI
  • For XAT 2022 exam registration you should visit official XAT exam website.
  • The XAT Exam registration 2022 and XAT exam application form 2022 can be submitted only after making payment of XAT 2022 Registration fee.
  • XAT exam format has changed to computer based test from the earlier paper based test

IS XAT tougher than CAT?

CAT does not have Decision Making section and GK section but XAT exam has DM and GK as separate sections. Another key difference is the XAT Vs CAT difficulty level. XAT is considered a bit more difficult than CAT exam.

Selection Procedure:

The selection procedure begins only after the announcement of the results and the cutoffs of the respective institutes. It is important that the candidates know the selection criteria and process of their target institute as it varies among different business schools. Usually, it is a two-step process:

  • Shortlisted candidates are called for the Writing Ability Test (WAT) or Essay Writing.
  • Some institutes prefer to have a Group Discussion instead.
  • Followed by it is the personal interviews.

The selection criteria for different institutes is different, which includes, work experience, academic records, and the overall candidate’s profile. There is no centralized counseling done by XLRI.

Results of XAT:

The result for XAT is declared online. The result is announced in the form of a scorecard and sectional score is mentioned there. The XLRI Jamshedpur also sends the hard copy of the scorecard on the registered address of the candidates. Candidates are expected to preserve there admit cards until the complete admission process is over.
